Ghana News Agency caught up with CIMAF HSE Manager, MR. Jacob Aggrey Odoom.


In an interview to enlighten the public on Health & Safety Standards.

Q1: Health Safety & Environmental (HSE) is an area that is often given very little attention by some companies in Ghana, in your company, CIMAF Ghana Limited) what is the value of HSE?

MR. J.A Odoom: Our organizational culture supports safety as an essential part of how we do our business. Health and Safety is one of our core values.

Q2: What is the level of involvement of

top management in safety?

MR. J.A Odoom: In CIMAF, management at the highest level owns and drives safety because of the relevance we place on it. Triannual Management meetings which is chaired by the General Manager with all directors as members is to provide policy direction of Health & Safety matters and to review the overall HSE performance of the business. This arrangements cascades into departments monthly Technical Directors meetings where all managers are present and weekly safety meetings at the shop floor where all staff and sub-contractors are present. Also regular workplace planned inspections and audits are carried out at the various work location, the findings of which feed into safety quiz competition with motivational rewards, besides safety features as a key subject in our regular stakeholders engagement with our customers and the community within which we operate, lastly attendance of health and safety meetings constitutes a key performance target for every staff.

Q3: Is there any roadmap in your company to ensure that all employees adheres to your operational HSE standards?

MR. J.A Odoom: Yes, the roadmap is simple: training competence and awareness, assessment/evaluation, implementation of reward and recognition plans in that order. We train our staff, we hold mandatory weekly safety meetings and assess our operational safety compliance , the results of which contribute to overall KPI performance both at the individual and corporate levels.

Q4: Does your company have ISO certification in 9001, 14001 and 45001 management system in place.

MR. J.A Odoom: Much as CIMAF Ghana does not have certification in this areas, we have aspirations to do so. We are building the necessary structures for the certification

Q5: What systems have you put in place to prevent the spread of COVID 19 pandemic?

MR. J.A Odoom: The following Management Directives and Health and Safety measures are in place to fight COVID-19. pandemic

  • Personal Hygiene and Social Distancing

  • Weekly toolbox Meetings/education.

  • Regular Hand washing

  • Adequate Supply of Hand Sanitizers

  • Daily inspection

  • Thermometer to check temperatures

  • Regular update of COVID-19

  • Crisis Management and Business continuity plan

We have also contributed to the Government of Ghana an amount of GH 250,000 to the COVID-19 fund to support the fight against the pandemic in Ghana
